NCC Sends Letter to Congressional Leadership Outlining Updated FY 2024 Funding Requests  
On November 13, all sixty-three members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) sent a letter to Congressional Leadership, as well as to House and Senate Appropriations Committees, requesting at least $302.472 million for Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs and at least $197.693 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research (NINR) in fiscal year (FY) 2024, as outlined in the Senate Appropriations Committee passed bill. The NCC further outlined that now is not the time to go backwards on funding. The NCC urged Congress to avoid a long-term continuing resolution (CR) and fully fund these critical programs.

NCC Sends Letter Welcoming the New NIH Director 
On November 30, the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) sent a letter to Dr. Monica M. Bertagnolli welcoming her as the 17th Director of the National Institutes of Health and outlining our commitment in elevating nursing research and the work of our nurse scientists.

NCC Thanks Senators for Introducing the I CAN Act
On October 10, sixty-one members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) sent a letter thanking Senate Nursing Caucus Co-Chair, Senator Jeff Merkley, and Senator Cynthia Lummis, for introducing the Improving Care and Access to Nurses (I CAN) Act (S.2418).

NCC Thanks Members of Congress for Introducing the Nurse Corps Tax Parity Act in the House of Representatives
On October 16, fifty-seven members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) sent a letter thanking Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA-01), Brian Higgins (D-NY-26), Jen Kiggans (R-VA-02), and Mike Thompson (D-CA-04) for introducing the bipartisan Nurse Corps Tax Parity Act of 2023 (H.R.5080).

NCC Sends Letter Welcoming the New Chief Nurse Officer at the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps
On October 31, the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) sent a letter to RDML Jennifer Moon, welcoming her as the new Chief Nurse Officer at the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps.

NCC Statement for the Record to the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health
On September 18, forty-seven members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) sent a statement for record for the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health hearing on, “VA’s Federal Supremacy Initiative: Putting Veterans First?” The NCC urged support for removing barriers to practice and allowing for Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs) to practice to the full extent of their education and abilities within the VA.

On July 24, 56 members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) sent a letter to Sen. Jeff Merkley and a bipartisan group of 11 cosponsors, thanking them for introducing the Nurse Corps Tax Parity Act (S.1446).

NCC Statement on the Senate FY 2024 Bipartisan Spending Bill
On July 28, the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) issued a statement commending the Senate Appropriations Committee for recognizing the importance of nursing education, workforce, and research by advancing their fiscal year (FY) 2024 Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education bill.

On June 12, fifty-five members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) signed onto a letter thanking Representatives Lisa Blunt Rochester (D-DE-At-Large) and Young Kim (R-CA-40), as well as Senate Nursing Caucus Co-Chair, Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Sen. Thomas Tillis (R-NC), and eight cosponsors for introducing the National Nursing Workforce Center Act of 2023 (H.R.2411/S.1150). 

NCC Thanks Representative Courtney and Senator Baldwin for Introducing the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act
On June 16, fifty-six members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) signed onto a letter thanking Representative Joe Courtney (D-CT-02) and Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) for introducing the Workplace Violence Prevention for Health Care and Social Service Workers Act (H.R.2663/S.1176).

On June 20, fifty-nine members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) signed onto a letter thanking House Nursing Congress Co-Chairs, Reps. NCC Thanks Members of Congress for Support of Legislation that Improves Access to Workers’ Compensation for Injured Federal Workers 
On May 4, fifty members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) signed onto a letter supporting the introduction of the Improving Access to Workers’ Compensation for Injured Federal Workers Act (S.131/H.R. 618). This bipartisan legislation would retire outdated barriers in the Federal Employees’ Compensation Act (FECA) that limit the ability of NPs to provide care and treatment for injured or ill federal employees.

NCC Sends Letter to Congress Outlining Top Legislative Priorities During National Nurses Week
On May 8, all sixty-three members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) signed onto a letter urging Congress to take action on top appropriations and legislative priorities that impact nursing education, workforce, and research. This letter comes as we celebrate National Nurses Week 2023.

NCC Thanks Congress for Introducing a Resolution Honoring and Recognizing National Nurses Week 2023
On May 31, all sixty-three members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) signed onto a thank you letter to Senate Nursing Caucus Co-Chairs, Sens. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) and Roger Wicker (R-MS), House Nursing Caucus Co-Chairs, Reps. David Joyce (R-OH-14) and Suzanne Bonamici (D-OR-01), and House Nursing Caucus Vice Co-Chairs and two of the nurses in Congress, Reps. Lauren Underwood (D-IL-14) and Jen Kiggans (R-VA-02), along with 40 bipartisan members in the House and Senate, for introducing S.Res.201 and H.Res.375 – a resolution supporting the goals and ideals of National Nurses Week, to be observed from May 6 through May 12, 2023.

NCC Submits Testimony to Senate Appropriations Subcommittee
On April 4, sixty-two members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) signed onto written testimony submitted to the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education, and Related Agencies. The testimony featured the coalition’s funding requests of at least $530 million for the Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs and at least $210 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research for Fiscal Year 2024.

44 Senators Support FY 2024 Funding for Title VIII in Senate Dear Colleague Letter
On April 10, forty-four Senators signed onto a circulated Senate Dear Colleague letter, requesting $530 million for Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs in FY 2024.

NCC Sends Fiscal Year (FY) 2024 Appropriations Requests to House and Senate LHHS-ED Appropriations Subcommittees
On March 6, fifty-nine members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) signed onto a letter to the House and Senate Appropriations Subcommittees on Labor, Health and Human Services, Education, and Related Agencies outlining the funding requests of at least $530 million for Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs and at least $210 million for the National Institute of Nursing Research for FY 2024.

NCC Sends Letter to Congress on PHE Waivers
On March 9, fifty-two members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) signed onto a letter urging Congress to take action to make waivers permanent beyond this Public Health Emergency (PHE).

NCC Statement on the President’s FY 2024 Budget
On March 15, the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) issued a statement supporting increased funding for key domestic and health care programs, such as Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development Programs and the National Institute of Nursing Research, in the Administration’s FY 2024 Budget.

NCC Sends Health Workforce RFI Response to Senate HELP Committee 
On March 20, sixty-three members of the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) signed onto a response to the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee’s Health Workforce Request for Information (RFI).

On February 8, the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) and the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action at the Center to Champion Nursing in America held a reception welcoming the 118th Congress. Attendees were joined by congressional staff and four members of Congress, including Reps. Lauren Underwood (D-IL-14), Deborah Ross (D-NC-02), Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA-01), and Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX-18).

NCC Welcomes 118th Congress
On January 11, the Nursing Community Coalition (NCC) welcomed Senators and Representatives to the 118th Congress and outlined our shared priorities of investing in Title VIII Nursing Workforce Development programs and supporting nursing research. The NCC looks forward to working with the new Congress to support our current and future nursing workforce.
