Program
On Saturday, August 4, participants may choose one of three workshops. The Dermatology Nursing Basics Course is designed for practitioners new to dermatology nursing. The course will cover basic anatomy and physiology of the skin, physical assessment, working with clients and diagnosing and treating common skin conditions. Attendees will build a fundamental framework and integrate that knowledge into assessing, treating and educating patients.

The Fundamentals of Phototherapy: The Joan Shelk Memorial Workshop, a special tribute to DNA Past President Joan Shelk, covers psoriasis and other photo-responsive skin diseases, equipment operations and other responsibilities associated with administering phototherapy. The Dermatologic Surgery/Cosmetic Workshop is designed to meet the needs of nurses new to dermatologic surgery and cosmetics and expand the knowledge of experienced colleagues. Attendees will learn surgical basics, pre- and post-operative responsibilities, how to apply cosmetic principles and techniques to non-cosmetic patients, and facial rejuvenation, injectables and botox.

On Sunday, August 5, DNA will offer an expanded Skin Cancer Workshop for the first time at the Summer Meeting. The workshop is designed as a forum on skin cancer prevention, early detection, and patient management. Panel members include sun protection advocate Maryellen Maguire-Eisen, MSN, RN, WABC-TV New York anchor Michelle Charlesworth, and other experts in dermatology, law, health education and research. Topics include the relationship of UV radiation to melanoma, management of problem skin legions, reducing malpractice risk and surviving metastatic melanoma.
