Nurse Authors Honored for Outstanding Contributions to Dermatology Nursing Journal

PITMAN, NJ – Dermatology Nursing journal presented its annual Writer’s Awards to experienced and novice authors for outstanding contributions to the journal during the Dermatology Nurses’ Association (DNA) 25th Anniversary Convention, February 1-4, 2007, in Crystal City, VA.

The Editor’s Award, which recognizes an individual who has made special contributions to the journal and to dermatology nursing education, was presented to Barbara Bielan, BSN, RN, NPC, a nurse practitioner in dermatology, Kaiser Permanente, San Francisco, CA, and a Dermatology Nursing Editorial Board Member since 1992. Bielan created and authored the journal’s “What’s Your Assessment” series, a feature that includes a case presentation, diagnosis, discussion and a step-by-step rationale for the assessment. The series has ranked as Dermatology Nursing’s most popular and well-read feature for the last 15 years.

“Barbara is someone who graciously shared her knowledge and expertise, encouraged and mentored us, and shared laughs and commiserated with us,” said Dermatology Nursing Editor Marcia Hill, MSN, RN, before she presented Bielan with her award. “She brought her stellar clinical skills and love of patient care into every one of our practices.”

Jacqueline Rhoads, PhD, ACNP-BC, ANP-C, GNP, CCRN, Laurie Ann Ferguson, MSN, FNP-C, ANP-BC, and Cynthia A. Langford, PhD, APRN-BC, FNP, received the Previously Published Author Award.
