In a recent article from the Dermatology Times, research has been tied between the number of dermatologists in an area and melanoma mortality. It seems that there is a lower melanoma mortality rate in the east and west coast US regions, where they are fairly well saturated with dermatologists. However, there appears to be a relative shortage of dermatologists throughout the center of the country, and the melanoma mortality rate is increasing.
Would creative recruiting efforts to hire dermatologists in areas that are currently underserved by the specialty be helpful for achieving the reduction in melanoma mortality in those middle states?
