There are currently 3 board positions and 2 nominating committee positions available for nominations and self-nominations:

Board of Directors
The DNA Board of Directors meets 4-6 times a year, via face-to-face meetings, which includes attendance at the Annual DNA Convention, or via conference call meetings. You are expected to attend all Board meetings whether they are face-to-face or via conference call. Face-to-face board meetings are usually held over a 2-3 day period. You must be willing to travel. Board members are reimbursed for most travel expenses. All positions require membership in the DNA. Being DNC or DCNP is preferred by not required. You must be willing to be available for Board business via email when needed.

  • President- Elect: The President-Elect sits on the Board for three years. As President-Elect you facilitate board business, appoint committee chairs and the annual program chair. In your first term you work closely with all Board members learning more about the DNA, how it works and what your job will entail as a President. As President the following year, you, in turn, will support and mentor the new President-Elect as well as provide leadership to the DNA, delegate assignments and facilitate board meetings with the support of the DNA staff. In your third year as Immediate Past President, you continue to contribute towards the growth of the DNA and support the new President in their role. You are expected to participate on weekly conference calls with the President and Executive Director.
  • Treasurer: The Treasurer serves a two-year term and works closely with the DNA Executive Director to oversee the association’s finances. A background in leadership and fiscal management is desirable. It is preferred that you have served as a member on the Board of Directors within the past 5 years or on the Finance Committee. As Treasurer, you will serve as chair of the Finance Committee. You will supervise the direction of all financial affairs of DNA, including all financial transactions and the investment program. You will coordinate the preparation of the annual budget in conjunction with the President and Executive Director. You will review monthly financial reports and approve volunteer expenses and management firm invoices. You will work with the National Office to prepare and present financial reports for board meetings and the annual business meeting at convention.
  • Director (1 position open): This is a two-year term. As a Board Director you work closely with the membership as a whole. You support DNA’s chapters and serve as a liaison between the board and assigned committees in the DNA. You play a large role in the strategic planning, development efforts, and the future of the DNA.

Nominating Committee (2 positions open)
The Nominating Committee is a two-year position elected by the membership. In this position you have the opportunity to help prepare a slate of officers for upcoming elections. Not only do you help to select qualified candidates, but you advise of the demands needed to fill the positions. In this position you use all the resources of the DNA, such as chapter presidents and committee chairs, to offer up possible candidates.

Though taking on a major leadership position in the DNA may appear overwhelming, the support and encouragement of other Board members make the experience not only worthwhile and gratifying but also fun! Life long friendships have been made while serving on these positions. Nominate yourself, nominate a friend, but don't miss these wonderful opportunities to be an active player in the DNA, travel, make friends, and mentor others!
